Prime Minister Harper and his Conservative Party Ministers and Senators refused to intervene in a Nortel settlement reached amongst the lawyers for the company, bond owners and the court appointed legal counsel for the pensioners, severed and disabled employees. The settlement causes poverty for the disabled employees despite them having a contract of disability insurance sponsored by their employer and their employer wrongfully taking million from their trust account. The settlement was agreed to by an unelected representative for the disabled, without a vote or other evidence of majority support. Informed consent was not possible due to material financial, actuarial and legal documents not being released by the court monitor until 5 months after the settlement.
