so I signed it but couldn’t come up with the money to pay him so when I called the next day to cancel the secretary told me it was ok because I didn’t pay the attorney. He told me that I needed to pay him first for him to represent me so do you think the agreement that I signed will be voided?

I assume you no longer expect representation? If that is the case there will be no problems.
