Question by cissie_415: how does a person get legal aid assistance for a lawyer when they were told it would cost them forty dollars?
Technically I am homeless but was told I would have to hire a private attourney to help me settle issues with back child support. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks

legal aid generally stays out of domestic issues unless there is abuse involved. otherwise, they’d be booked up until the end of time and never have enough attorneys to cover all the cases.

    If the judge says you can afford a lawyer, and you think you can’t, you will have to persuade the judge to change his/her mind.

    Certainly, you can try legal aid. Law schools at universities also often operate some kind of legal clinic — check out the schools in your area.
